Apprentice Cedar Chest of Drawers 1860


A magnificent example of an apprentice presenting his/her skills to their master. The drawer fronts are faced with quilted Cedar over Huon with an additional Fiddle-back Cedar veneered to the inside of the drawer. Fine, hand cut dovetails, six original knobs, three original escutcheons and all five original locks. One of Australia's finest known examples of apprentice furniture.

In spectacular, as found condition, we present a very rare quilted Australian Cedar chest of drawers. Original Blackwood end-grain knobs. Thick hand cut veneer and original turned legs. Structurally in superb condition. Conservation available on request.

Cedar Press on Chest

Australian Colonial Full Cedar Press on Chest, Circa 1860

The molded cornice above a pair of paneled doors flanked by fine, rare in Australian furniture, carved lions head corbels. The interior fitted with three cedar slide out shelves and hanging space. The chest, with two short drawers and two long cock-beaded full cedar drawers. Original turned knobs, original hardware and superb original untouched patina.

Cedar Chiffonier J.C Loudon

Cedar Chiffonier J.C Loudon Design 1835

An exceptional colonial Australian Red Cedar chiffonier. Based on a design from J.C Loudon's, "An Encyclopedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture and Furniture", the chiffonier is one of Australia's earliest and most original. Magnificent ribboned cedar in the doors, fine cross-banding and an elegant carved back all complement the superb original patina. The finest chiffonier in stock and currently unmatched by any known Australian chiffonier.

Two glazed doors above two lower doors and a fall front writing slope enclosing six cedar drawers and ten pigeon holes. Superb Oyster Cut Red Cedar veneer bordering the sides and pelmet and featured again on the lower cupboards and fall front writing slope. Provenance to Sir Redmond Barry (1831 – 1880) and made in the highly regarded workshop of George Thwaites. Bookcase patina and hardware is in original untouched condition.
